Rummy is a matching game where players form sets (three or four of a kind) and runs (three or more consecutive cards of one suit). The first to meld all their cards wins.
Deal 10 cards each for two players (7 for 3–4, 6 for 5–6). Turn one card up to start the discard pile; the rest is the stock.
Draw one card (stock or discard), then either meld sets and runs or lay off onto existing melds, then discard one card to end your turn.
When you can meld or lay off your last card, you go out and win the hand. Opponents score deadwood — the value of unmelded cards (face cards 10, aces 1, others face value).
Watch the discard pile to infer opponents' hands. Hold middle cards (6–8) which fit into more runs than aces or kings.
A set (3–4 cards of the same rank) or a run (3+ consecutive cards of the same suit).
10 for two players, 7 for 3–4, and 6 for 5–6 players.
The unmelded cards left in your hand when someone goes out — they are scored against you.
