Pitch, also called Setback, is a trick-taking game where players bid for the right to set trump and try to capture the game points.
Deal 6 cards each. Players bid on how many of the four "game points" they will capture.
The four points are: High (highest trump played), Low (lowest trump played), Jack (of trump), and Game (the sum of card values captured in tricks).
The highest bidder names trump and leads. Follow suit if able, trump to win. The bidder must make their bid or be set back by that amount.
Points are scored each hand. First to 7, 11, or 21 points (by agreement) wins the game.
High, Low, Jack, and Game — the highest trump, lowest trump, jack of trump, and the most card-value in tricks.
Failing your bid "sets you back" by the bid amount — hence the alternate name.
